IDEA ON SITE

Site 1

My building takes the form of the land because I feel like this can relate to the site and in a way it  balances out in plan for me. Since my building is raised up twelve feet above ground, there is a ramp that leads into the main entrance which translates into the streets. The red bending mesh that squiggles around represents a flexible element to the rigid form of the building.

  1. Try not to limit yourself to the site. Your ideas should be able to stand on it's own. The site should reflect what the project is trying to convey. Keep it up.

  2. I don't like the way you changed the form of your model completely just to fit the site. You should play with various orientations of your original model to make the site fit your model not the other way around. Your hybrid model is so strong you just have to reconfigure it as best as you can.

    Best of luck.

  3. I agree with David with the shape of your building. The shape shouldn't follow the property line, but instead follow the design of what you think fashion should be shaped like .

  4. I feel like you have some very good study models, but it doesn't translate well into this hybrid model. I don't think you should change the form of the building just to fit the lines of the site. You have many possibilities but just need to good back and explore more with those study models.

  6. Don't let the edges of the site be the main form giver for your building. In areas of high density, you may have little choice but to build all the way to the edges of your site. But when you look at how adjacent areas can influence the ground plane, the perimeter of the site becomes less of a limit and more of an event. I agree, go back and look at your study models. Then look at how the greater site can influence the design. Think about the different ways one can engage your building at the perimeter.

I actually think you need to go back to your initial study models and examine them in the context of the site...then make some additional study models with the site in mind. Then you will discover a composite site/building form solution.

Look at how the site can rise to meet the building 12' above the street. A singular ramp is a narrow vision. Look at Snohettas Oslo Opera House and Pei's Louvers Entrance for some inspiration.

  7. Your approach to what can be the shape of your building is valid, your idea of your ramp to, i agree with Jerry Jensen at this point "Look at Snohettas Oslo Opera House...". The way you explain the reasons for the "Red bending mesh that goes around the building..." are not quite clear for me and in the plan view looks gratuitous, if you go back to your model studies for sure you can improve your ideas. How this ideas can be reflected in your facades, the next step is to go from 2D to 3D.
