5. What are you goals for working with
the building type?
My goals for working with this building type is to give the community an
attractive site which will be inviting to the tourists and will transform a quiet
neighborhood and give it life.
6. What are the program elements that
you see included at this point in your building? (may evolve once more research is done)
Some Program elements I see in the Boutique hotel are retail stores, a theatre,
restaurants and spas.
This typology works well with the cruise ship terminal. I think the base while incorporating the issues of flooding can be a very unique Boutique Hotel.
ReplyDeleteA boutique hotel is a great idea; supported by both the demographics as well as the current trends of the site. However, remember that any hotel requires transportation for guests, which in this case is largely limited to buses and cars.
ReplyDeleteIkea successfully fixed that problem with their water taxi and bus shuttle service, but then again Ikea gets a lot of traffic constantly. A hotel may not experience that same amount of traffic on an ongoing basis.
Moreover, there is also the issue of security due to the industrial nature of the site. You should research ways to make sites more secure during nightime.
Here is a list of boutique hotels you can look at. NYC is a mecca for those like the library hotel by Bryant park. I suggest you do some research on what is a boutique hotel. I think it is a great idea especially if you can convince your audience to bring the NYC fashion show to Red Hook
