3D PRINTED PHYSICAL MODEL
I decided to 3D
print my model because to me it was very complex to do otherwise. The way my
ribbons go in and out and over and twists and sometimes meets, and so this was the best way to
express what I wanted pretty much. Due to the dimension box of the 3D printing machine, which is 10"x 14"x 8", the runway got cut off, but other than that there were no issues.
FINAL PLANS & ELEVATIONS
In my final floor plans the matrix I did
earlier helped me put together the functions of my Boutique Hotel pretty efficiently. I may need to fix some things later on.
First Level- As one enters into the
building they see the check in counter and the main lobby which is of double
height space. The first level has the all day dining exclusively for hotel
guests, a bar, the banquet room, and
next to it a restaurant which has great views of the water. The main
circulation is in the center long rectangular element which takes you to different spaces, and therefore it leads into another area which is the retail section of the hotel which goes up to the second floor, and also has its own lounge.
Second Level- The Second level is where
all the buzz is, the runway room is there with its own cantilevering runway,
and when it's not being used it can be rented out for private functions such as
weddings and so forth. This floor has another exciting space which is the sky
lounge that has breathtaking views NYC, and another restaurant to its side also
with the same views.
Third Level- The third level gets a little quieter because from this floor on the hotel rooms begin. On the third level there is a gym for guests and also open to public, a business center, and a spa/salon.
Fourth Level- All hotel rooms on this level with a wide range of views depending on the room.
Fifth Level- Only hotel rooms, and linen rooms.

FINAL MASSING ON SITE
Final massing of my design and how it works.
My Building begins with the concept
of the runway idea right from the entrance in which a ramp cuts into my site from the corner of Van Dyke
street and Barnell street, it then leads directly into the main entrance of the
elevated building.
To a certain degree I wanted the ramp
which leads into the main entrance to appear as if it was completely
penetrating the building like an arrow and coming out as this long cantilevering
runway.
As this theoretical
idea of the fashion runway evolved, I wanted to make this initial concept literally piercing out and elongated just like an actual runway. I wanted to make my concept even stronger by making the cantilevering runway point towards
Lady Liberty in Liberty Island, as she represents
a fashion icon and one of the main attractions of New York City.
Fashion
is all about gorgeous fabrics and beautiful colors and I wanted to also incorporate
this idea of the fabric pieces encircling my building. So I had this idea of
theses Ribbon like pieces floating freely yet wrapping my building at the same
time like a saree with its seemingly never ending wraps.
These ribbons I imagine are titanium pieces that reflects the colors of different fabrics, and not only are they decorative pieces behind my inspiration but they have some means of function. For example in some areas the ribbons exaggerate important spaces like the main entrance and in other areas they function as a canopy.
